Safe and affordable housing is under attack in Michigan. The legislature is considering a number of bills that would raise rent and housing prices, while creating unsafe communities for renters. For example, House Bill 4878 would prevent landlords from stopping people who have committed crimes like murder and assault from living in apartment and senior communities.

However, a package of common sense bills would take steps in the right direction by removing barriers to new housing construction and encouraging more multifamily and affordable housing to be built. For example, House Bills 6095 - 6097 would loosen zoning and permitting regulations and House Bill 6098 would allow for more multifamily housing to be built.

Michigan needs more investment in quality housing for homeowners and renters. These bills would boost construction to keep rents low and improve Michigan's housing supply.
